Common dental emergencies and when to text us

Here are some of the most frequent dental emergencies and simple steps you can take before your visit.

Even if your tooth is damaged, many breaks can be repaired. Call us immediately to schedule an emergency visit. Small chips can often be fixed with a filling, while more serious breaks may require a root canal and crown to protect the tooth.
If you have a toothache, call to book an emergency appointment and explain your symptoms. Over-the-counter pain relief can help until you see us, but avoid placing medication directly on the tooth. Applying a cold compress to the outside of your cheek can ease discomfort. Avoid heat, as it can worsen the problem.
If you lose a permanent tooth, quick action is key. If the tooth is clean, gently place it back in its socket. If not, keep it moist in cold milk and contact us immediately. The sooner you get to the dentist, ideally within 10 minutes, the better the chance of saving your tooth. Even if the tooth cannot be saved, it is important to have the area checked.
If a filling falls out, place a piece of sugarless gum over the spot to protect it until you can visit us for a replacement.
For bleeding, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth. Use a cold pack to reduce swelling. If bleeding does not stop or is heavy, go to the nearest emergency room.
Try gently removing the object with dental floss. Do not use sharp tools that can harm your gums or teeth. If you cannot remove it safely, contact us for help.

Broken or Chipped Tooth

Even if your tooth is damaged, many breaks can be repaired. Text us right away to schedule an emergency visit. Small chips are often fixed with a filling, while more severe breaks may require a crown or root canal to protect the tooth and restore function. Prompt attention gives the best chance for a successful repair.

Toothache

If you have a toothache, text us to book an emergency appointment and describe your symptoms. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help temporarily, but avoid placing medication directly on the tooth. Applying a cold compress to the outside of your cheek can reduce discomfort. Avoid heat, which may make the problem worse

Knocked-Out Tooth

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, act quickly. If the tooth is clean, gently place it back in its socket. If that isn’t possible, keep it safe and text us immediately. The sooner you reach a dentist, ideally within 10 minutes, the higher the chance of saving the tooth.

Lost Filling

If a filling comes out, protect the exposed tooth by placing a piece of sugarless gum or dental wax over the area until you can text us for a replacement. Avoid chewing on that side to prevent further damage.

Injured Tongue or Lip

For a cut or injury, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth to control bleeding. Use a cold pack on the outside of the mouth to reduce swelling. If the bleeding is heavy or does not stop within a few minutes, seek care at the nearest emergency room.

Object Stuck Between Teeth

Gently try to remove the object with dental floss. Avoid using sharp tools or pointed objects that could damage your gums or teeth. If you cannot safely remove it, text us for guidance.
